Senior Specialist Solution Architect

Job Summary:

The L3Harris ForceX Solution Architect will work continuously with program management, customers, internal stakeholders, and all technical staff to recommend, design, and implement efficient and effective solutions. Solution Architects will mentor other L3Harris ForceX teams and individuals on best practices and troubleshooting. They will also assist with the development of technical maturity within the ForceX Engineering teams. The position balances solving customer needs, business strategy, and hands-on interaction. The Solution Architect, Senior Specialist Level is a senior professional with strong job area knowledge and broad knowledge of project management, managing complex projects and processes with general oversight to achieve operational targets and goals with direct impact on departmental results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of internal development frameworks and architectural patterns
  • Evaluate proposed and created solutions for efficiency, proper design, and modularity
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to inform the policies, best practices, and working instructions used to govern development standards
  • Verify coding standards, processes, and code quality are maintained for all L3 ForceX programs and solutions
  • Provide training support to the teams in collaboration with training plans established by a team’s functional supervisor
  • Support Business Development by estimating the effort and complexity of proposed work
  • Consult with Program Management and Business Development to properly scope the size of work
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of an Architectural Road Map
  • Positively influence technical strategy at all levels of the organization from development teams to senior leadership
  • Organize and prioritize work to ensure time-sensitive tasks and deliverables are on time to the stakeholder and/or customer
  • Understand and verify customer requirements, recommend alternatives related to software, hardware, security, and network solutions
  • Present a solutions architecture to stakeholders of a project
  • Troubleshoot advanced technical challenges to include, but not be limited to, software defects, hardware concerns, and network challenges
  • Provide assistance for automated testing design, as needed
  • Provide technical support and assistance to Program Management, as needed
  • Collaborate and communicate with customers face-to-face, by telephone, email, and other media to maintain strong customer relationships and establish proper customer expectations
  • Provide technical leadership to Engineering and process teams for gathering, monitoring and analyzing performance data
  • Decide third-party technical and implementation solutions
  • Provide recruiting support to Engineering teams, as needed
  • Travel for customer and technical support
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to review, verify, and derive requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate abstract ideas and themes to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to create realistic and accurate solution estimates for proposed work based on customer requirements preferred
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision preferred
  • Ability to create and maintain clear and concise architecture documentation
  • Ability to identify, develop, and communicate new approaches for complex design problems preferred
  • Ability to effectively and objectively present, receive, and resolve differences in direction and/or strategy within a collaborative environment preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate the benefit of architectural utilization to team members, customers, program management, senior leadership, and other stakeholders as appropriate preferred
  • Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting preferred
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance preferred
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication
  • Proficiency in presentation, judgment, negotiation, and facilitation preferred
  • Strong listening and questioning skills preferred

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s (BS or BA) degree in Engineering (preferably Systems Engineering, Networking, Software, IT, or  Computer Science), Physics, or Mathematics and minimum of 6 years prior related experience as described below. Equivalent of education and prior related experience also considered.
  • 5+ years developing solutions in a distributed environment, preferably within the principles of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
  • 6+ years of software development across a variety of Object Oriented Programming languages (C++, C#, Java, etc) in a Windows and/or Linux environment
  • 3+ years experience in an Agile environment with working experience within Scrum, XD, or Kanban methodologies of delivery
  • Experience training and mentoring teams and individuals
  • 3+ years of leadership interaction, presentations, and solution management experience
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education

  • Exposure to planning, design, and delivery of complex projects where business concerns such as resource utilization, procurement, training, troubleshooting, employee and customer relations, cost, budget, and schedule management can influence design and levels of effort
  • 3+ years of conceptual software and logical modeling integration, process, and design experience, ideally in Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Experience creating and maintaining development quality and compliance standards, policy, and best practices
  • Experience in evaluating competing priorities when making decisions
  • Experience with hardware integration
  • Experience interfacing with end users and customers
  • Experience developing complex solutions utilizing a variety of technologies, methodologies, and industry patterns

Physical Demands:

  • Duties may require working in confined areas when located at a customer facility
  • Required to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to travel
  • Frequent light physical effort required
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse

Work Environment:

  • Work performed in an office environment or customer facility, which may include confined spaces, aircraft, hangar facilities, or other atypical working locations
  • Working with computers, and other computer components
  • Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside of normal working hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays)
  • Possible travel and work OCONUS (program specific)
