Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technologist, performs clinical laboratory testing in a high, volume clinical laboratory setting.
Shift is 4 days/week @ 10 hours/day, with rotating weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine, diagnostic testing on clinical laboratory specimens.
- Understands and participates in all aspects of patient testing; pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical. Identifies problems which could affect testing and takes corrective action.
- Operates lab equipment and instruments accurately and efficiently including performing daily, weekly and monthly quality control checks. Performs corrective and preventative maintenance.
- Evaluates laboratory results against established reference ranges recognizing abnormal or unusual results. Reports results according to laboratory result reporting procedures.
- Recognizes and troubleshoots complex laboratory problems. Communicates with a supervisor or medical director as needed to resolve issues.
- Accurately documents quality control, preventative maintenance and laboratory results.
- Uses laboratory information system to print worksheets and reports as needed. Monitors specimen pending lists to assure that results are reported in accordance with established turn-around time limits.
- Anticipates and maintain supplies to assure uninterrupted testing by restocking necessary supplies and reagents.
- Participates in and may coordinate training of employees.
- Serves as lead tech during absence of onsite supervisor.
- Participates in laboratory in-service training as well. Takes responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
- Maintains confidentiality of all laboratory records.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university and completion of a medical laboratory training program.
- Minimum of 3 years work experience is preferred.
- Prior work experience in Chemistry, Immunochemistry and Hematology is preferred.
- Licensed in Tennessee as a Medical Laboratory Technologist – General
- ASCP Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
