Job Summary: Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, appliances, systems, facilities, and related electrical controls and devices. Assign, direct and review the work of lower level employees. Inspect and certify work is in compliance with state and local electrical codes. Plan, estimate and commission new installations or renovations of electrical systems or equipment. Assist in the training of new personnel. Install electrical systems for underground distribution, traffic signals, roadway lighting and athletic field lighting. Responsibilities: Size and install conduits, conductors, switches, outlets and junction boxes. Install disconnects, lights, devices and electrical panels; install motors, motor control circuits, electrical systems in hazardous locations and transformers; install battery banks, battery chargers and switch gear; install intrusion alarm systems and grounding systems in general facilities. Read and interpret electrical drawings. Install electrical systems, conduit, wire and direct others in an efficient and safe manner. Prepare daily reports and material lists. Ensure installations meet NEC, Local codes and specifications. May be required to operate company vehicles. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school Diploma or GED. 4 years of electrical construction experience. Must pass a drug test and background check. Must have a good driving record. Must have an electrician’s license from a local jurisdiction or obtain a license within 90 days of effective date of hire. Must have own transportation. You must be able to meet all health requirements, including but not limited to, current and future vaccination requirements for infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Desired Qualifications: Be able to follow instructions, specifications and drawings for working on government or industrial electrical projects that involve power distribution, exterior lighting, power systems, traffic signs/signals. Must have an excellent safety record. Must strive for quality and ethical work. Prior military experience highly preferred. Must be career orientated with a desire to learn and advance your career. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Interpret plans, sketches, wiring diagrams, and specifications; identify all electrical terms and symbols. Estimate material needed for job. Fill out client paperwork and account for material ordered. Journeyman’s license preferred. Equivalent experience will be accepted. Equipment and Applications. Candidates must provide hand tools needed for electrical work. Must have serviceable hand tools normal to the trade, in good working condition. Must have work clothes and work shoes. Work Environment and Physical Demands: Projects are located throughout the Hampton Roads area and out of town when needed. Overtime may be a requirement. Physical demands may include lifting over 50 pounds, climbing, kneeling, bending, walking, standing for extended periods of time, moving equipment. May be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
