Job Summary and Qualifications
The PACU Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. This individual utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice and maintains a safe therapeutic environment. The nurse identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. The nurse plans individualized patient care while utilizing an interdisciplinary approach and participates in performance improvement activities. The nurse provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement.
What you will do in this role:
Receive post-surgical report from CRNA and circulator, including, but not limited to; airway patency, patient vital signs during procedure, type of anesthesia used, dressings, drains, and fluid intake/output.
Handle maintenance of post-operative drains including, JP, Hemovac, Pleurovac, and foley catheters.
Handle maintenance of patient airway, including oral airways, nasal airways, and ETT.
Assess and treat pain based on parameters given by physician ordering pain medication, be alert for signs of overmedication and or anaphylaxis.
Provide updates to appropriate individuals identified by the patient.
Oversee quality assurance activities, and communicating any concerns to the physician.
What qualifications you will need:
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee or compact state required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
1 year of ICU or PACU RN experience required

TriStar Southern Hills PACU is a 10-Bed unit that specializes in providing exceptional care immediately postoperatively for patients that undergo general surgery, ortho-spine surgery, total joint and other orthopedic surgeries, urology procedures, vascular surgery, gynecologic surgery, podiatric surgery, endoscopy procedures, non-open-heart cardiac catheterization procedures, TEE and Cardioversion procedures, and interventional radiological procedures.
