Summary Director of Distribution Center Design Contract LogisticsTransportation Management Engineering Exempt 111914 The Director of Distribution Center Design is responsible for significant contribution to success of new business by managing an engineering team and leading design of new warehouses to meet scope, timeline, budget and customer requirements. Design package may include facility layouts, material handling equipment designs, storage media designs, process designs, slotting and pick path analyses, warehouse management systems and warehouse controls system requirement definitions, capacity plans with noted constraints, warehouse utilization studies, and labor models and staffing plans. Job Duties Primary Duties bull Develops tactical strategies and leads team through project lifecycle to design distribution centers, including high volume facilities, ensuring timely project delivery, cost control and customer satisfaction bull Leads development of data driven designs by analyzing client order, SKU and storage data bull Conducts gap analysis and ensures issues are resolved bull Identifies risks and mitigation plans to reduce exposure and risk on project communicates such to executives bull Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities bull Ensures team supports designs with data and calculations bull Serves as liaison between customer and company for design projects bull Provides guidance and development to team members, fosters a culture of excellence to facilitate increased revenue and customer satisfaction bull Serves as expert on material handling equipment and storage media selection, process design and preferred methods, and slotting and sequencing bull Examines and validates deliverables prepared by team before delivering to the customer and implementation team bull Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors and customers bull Supports business development by assisting in pursuits of new business and providing operational expertise and systems knowledge bull Challenges others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model and mentor bull Researches and maintains knowledge of emerging industry practice bull Other duties as required and assigned Requirements Education and Experience bull Bachelorrsquos or higher degree in Engineering, Logistics, or Business Management from accredited institution bull Minimum 10 years related experience andor training or equivalent combination education and experience bull Must have strong knowledge of warehouse design, material handling equipment and storage media technologies, pick methodology, work measurement, labor management, slotting, and warehouse value added services (i.e., kitting and price labeling) bull Excellent analyticalproblem solving capabilities and presentation skills required. bull Prior supervisorymanagement experience required. bull Must be able to travel up to 20 bull Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD bull Knowledge of warehousing, logistics, and operations bull Experience with WMS TMS systems a plus bull Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) required, knowledge of Red Prairie JDA WLM is a plus. bull Operations experience preferred. Essential Skills bull Knowledge of velocity, inventory, and cube analysis bull Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual bull Ability to write routine reports and correspondence bull Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form bull Superior problem solving, analytical, and organization skills bull Ability to provide clear and direct communications with others, both verbally and in written form bull Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage own work. Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift andor move up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
